RECYCLED, READY-TO-MELT QUALITY STEEL

TYRE RECYCLING IS RECYCLING OF VALUABLE RESOURCES
In order to withstand heat as well as bumps and potholes, tyres must be extremely sturdy. The necessity of a strong and durable inner construction of steel is crucial to traffic safety. Tyre manufacturers know this – and consequently never compromise on the quality of the steel that they use. Tyre wire from used tyres is thus a valuable, recyclable resource.

As a recycler of end-of-life tyres, Genan engages in both rubber and steel recycling.

The Genan recycling concept is a completely automated recycling process, where worn-down tyres are cleaned, shredded and granulated to facilitate the subsequent separation of materials into a rubber fraction, a textile fraction and a steel fraction of tyre wire fragments.
The Genan technology includes a processing of the steel fraction, which makes it very clean. Recycled steel from Genan is thus very well suited for remelting at steel works, where it is added during the melting process for the production of new steel. When mixed with other steel and remelted in a steel mill, recycled steel from Genan gets a second life in new, industrial steel.

A STEEL PRODUCT WITH MANY ADVANTAGES
Genan recycled steel is a very clean product. Steel samples from all production plants are regularly tested at our laboratory – to verify that we always meet our specification for an impressive > 97% purity.

Genan steel is a well-documented product with excellent product properties and conforms to well-known standards for recycled steel, e.g. the German “Stahlschrottpreise Index Sorte 2”, which reports market prices on a regular basis.

Furthermore, the Genan steel fraction is very dense. When dispatched from Genan, the bulk density is approx. 800 kg/m3, which is far higher than for alternative recycled tyre wire products. This high bulk density makes storage, transportation and handling easy and very cost-effective. For steelworks, the high bulk density also proves efficient during the remelting process – both in connection with induction heating and in electrode-based melting processes, as evaporation is minimal.

STEEL RECYCLING FOR THE SAKE OF THE CLIMATE
Steel – and thus also recycled tyre wire – is a product which can be re-melted over and over again.

Steel recycling limits the need for iron ore mining, as the need for virgin iron ore is reduced, when scrap steel is reused. This is especially important in this day and age when human civilization is using resources faster than the planet can regenerate them. The recycling of all kinds of resources is a must to reverse climate change.
