The economy in a Genan tyre recycling plant is based on two sources of income: the income from the reception of scrap tyres for environmentally correct processing (a so-called gate-fee) and the sales income from the final products such as high-quality granulate, steel, and textile.
It must be emphasized that the Genan concept produces final products of a very high quality. By way of example, granulate and rubber powder have a very high level of purity and consistency which secure high market prices. The fields of applications are rapidly growing, and a global market for the products is developing. Consequently, Genan will be able to contribute with an extensive know-how and knowledge about estimated sales income from the various applications.
However, when it comes to the size of the local gate-fee, circumstances might differ greatly from one country to the other. A very important factor is the local environmental legislation regarding processing of scrap tyres. Within the EU alone, three different systems are being used, see below. It is also of great importance whether or not disposal of tyres in landfills and/or incineration of tyres in e.g. cement kilns are allowed according to local legislation.
In order to enter into a serious dialogue about establishing a Genan recycling plant, it is a precondition that the local partner already from the start of the process will be able to present both a complete outline of existing and projected environmental legislation regarding disposal of scrap tyres, and give an estimate of the gate-fee to be expected from receiving the tyres.
